Course Description

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business is an Applied General qualification. It is for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the business sector. The qualification is equivalent to one A Level and aims to provide a coherent introduction to study of the business sector.

The course is delivered over a period of two years. The course explores four different units. They are:

  • Unit 1: Exploring Business
  • Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign
  • Unit 3: Personal and Business finance.
  • Unit 27:  Work experience in business

Units 1, 2 and 3 will be externally assessed whilst Unit 27 will be internally assessed.

Career Pathways

There are several pathways learners can take upon completion of the course. Learners will be in a strong position to do an undergraduate degree in any business-related degree, including finance, accounting, marketing, and business management. There are also opportunities to do degree apprenticeships with companies such as Ernst & Young and KPMG.  

The qualification is designed to be taken as part of a study programme alongside other vocational qualifications or A-levels.


Job Opportunities

Opportunities are available in retail management, marketing, finance, consultancy and HR. Some of the job roles include: Business Adviser, Business Analyst, Accountant, Management Consultant, Human Resources, Marketing Executive and Business Development Manager.
