Course Description

The course has been designed to deliver a high level of knowledge about the aviation industry as well as the occupational skills required to enter the industry (known as ‘threshold competence’). 

This industry-led course will allow you to gain a level 3 qualification (extended diploma, equivalent to 3 A Levels) and industry certifications that will fast track your chances of working in aviation. Due to the industry loaded curriculum content these courses are for the passionate, with dedication to achieving their goals. A learner who completes this qualification is well placed to develop to full occupational competence with the correct support and training. 

All learners work from a common aviation curriculum that is formed from the substantial similarities in skills sets and knowledge requirements for the selected core operational roles. This reprises the traditional approach taken by the industry to ensuring that all members of the industry have a broad basis of knowledge and skills before specialising. Within this, learners can specialise through their assignments in one of the following three main pathways: Aircraft engineering; Aircraft operations; Pilot (others are also available).

Career Pathways

The pathways are designed with industry to enable the learner to gain the theory qualifications, practical experience, core skills and behaviours required for the roles in the commercial or military aviation industry. Learners will gain a broad understanding of the UK aviation industry and will practice the use and understanding of English, mathematics and physics applied within aviation. This is also complemented with the use of Virtual and Augmented Reality Training, simulation enrichment and an Individual Aviation Career Plan.

The course is focused on all aspects of Aircraft theory and practical training at the appropriate level, including subjects such as:

  1. Flight, Airport, Ground, Engineering and Technical Operations
  2. Safety Management and Human Factors within Aviation, Legislation in aviation
  3. Aviation mathematics and science for technicians
  4. Fundamentals of electronics and avionics systems
  5. Developing practical skills and capabilities, using specialist Virtual and Augmented reality simulation of aircraft systems and operations

Learners will enhance their core skills and behaviours through a range of education delivery which is complemented by virtual reality, enrichment, and an Individual Aviation Career Plan.
