T Levels are a new qualification developed in collaboration with employers.

Every T Level includes an industry placement with an employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for entry into the furniture industry. Placements will last a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) and take the form of either a block, day release or a mixture of both.

Course Description

The T Level will help students develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including: 

The creative economy 
The individual in the creative industries 
Cultural context and vocabulary 
Audience and consumer needs 
Legal and regulatory requirements 
Professional standards and conduct in the workplace 
Equality, diversity and inclusion requirements 
Research skills 
Project methodology and administration 
Continued professional development. 


In addition to the core knowledge unit learners will study the Furniture Maker standalone Occupational Specialism.

The TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION is the main classroom-based element of the T Level. During this time, you will learn the core knowledge that underpins the sector and be assessed by two exams and an employer set project that is created in conjunction with employers

The INDUSTRY PLACEMENT provides a range of workshop based practical assignments where you will develop occupationally specific skills enabling you to enter skilled employment within the furniture industry such as:

  • Bespoke Furniture Maker
  • Furniture Designer
  • Furniture Maker
  • Furniture Restorer

This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the creative industry, which will prepare learners to enter the industry through employment or as an Apprentice. Furthermore, the completion of this qualification gives the learner the opportunity to progress onto higher education courses and training.
