Our year nine learners enjoyed an exciting trip to the Guild Hall Livery Careers fair, where they had the chance to learn about some of the 110 livery companies, both ancient and modern, across London.
Livery companies were originally formed in the 12th century to guarantee that tradespeople were trustworthy, fully qualified and that the goods they produced were of a high standard. In the present day, they play a significant role in the City of London- the financial district and heart of the capital- and provide charitable giving and networking opportunities to wider society.
Moving from stall to stall, our year nine group learnt all about a range of trades that shape the world around us, some of which they had never heard of before. From The Worshipful Company of Masons to The Worshipful Company of Bakers, Learners enjoyed interactive demonstrations from different industries and got a taste of the day-to-day responsibilities in these different industries.
As an added bonus, while learners went from stall to stall, they also collected amazing gifts and souvenirs!
Learner Velislav shared that, ‘It was an amazing and inspiring day out. For me the highlight was meeting the aviation guild because my dream is to become a pilot.’
‘This trip offered learners the chance to step out of their comfort zone and engage in meaningful conversations about a range of different industries. Gaining insight into all these fascinating careers will certainly broaden our learners' horizons,’ Carla, Learner Help Desk Lead.
