Learner Limelight: Darren
As well as being an exceptional learner at LDE, Darren’s extra-curricular activities has resulted in notable achievements in the Army Cadet Force. Our year 11 learner correspondent Zarrin caught up with Darren to hear all about it.
Lord Mayor’s Show Since the year 1215 new lord mayor of London has been required to present themselves to the sovereign to swear allegiance. This tradition has been going on for over 800 years! With live coverage each year, thousands of people take part in the world’s longest unrehearsed parade to welcome the new Lord Mayor of London. There is dancing, military displays, giant inflatables and more, with music provided by 20 bands. |
Jack Petchey award The Jack Petchey Achievement Award celebrates young people who have gone above and beyond to achieve great things in their personal lives, local area or school. Each year, Jack Petchey recognises the achievements of around 12,000 young people across the country, investing £3.5m through this scheme. Darren received his award for exceptional contributions to the cadets as a role model and leader. |
Life as an army cadet The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation sponsored by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence and the British Army. The Army Cadets engage in a range of activities including Drill and Turnout, Military Knowledge, Fieldcraft, Skill at Arms, Shooting, Navigation, Expedition Training, First Aid and Physical Training. |
