As part of Black History Month, our learners had a valuable opportunity to enjoy a panel discussion in a learning for life session, where visitors Bernicia, Lisa-Marie, Donita and Caroline shared their insights, experiences and accomplished career pathways.
Bernicia: a makeup artist and entrepreneur recognized by Forbes as one of the top young talents. She's known for her mission to celebrate black beauty and has worked with renowned figures like Michaela Coel and Jordan Dunn.
Lisa-Marie: With over five years of experience in music and media, and she's dedicated her career to promoting black artists worldwide. She's collaborated with Grammy award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, among others.
Donita: a successful entrepreneur and advocate for the well-being of Black and Brown Women. She's also been seen on Channel 4's 'Highlife' and BET's 'Dating Black.'
Caroline: serves as a Community Organizer for Newham Citizens. Her aim is to help individuals come together and make positive changes in society.
During the session, our panelists shared their career journeys and personal passion for their fields. Through personal anecdotes and experiences, our learners gained insights into black identity and what influenced and motivated our visitors’ success.
We also had the privilege of welcoming Jackson, on of LDE's own employees, share his journey of personal growth with our learners. It was truly powerful to hear Jackson's story, as we gained insight into the challenges he overcome to get to where he is today.
In the Q&A session, they offered advice and gave learners to ask more questions. Notably, one learner asked if our speakers had a message to their younger selves.
Learners concluded the session with an interactive activity where they were challenged to design and pitch 'Feel Good' products that promote identity and well-being.
'Our learners have been so inspired by all of the stories shared this week by our guest speakers. You never know what barriers others have had to overcome in life. Also in a society where fame and money are a huge magnet I loved this quote from Bernicia Boateng “be the best you and work hard at whatever you do and wealth will find you.” Thank you to all our visitors!' Gill, EDI lead.
