Exploring Interactive Media with Images&Co

Malcolm MBE RD came to visit our learners to assess their progress and offer feedback on an exciting Employer Led Project where learners were set a brief dealing with the real-world issue of diet and its effect on our environment. This hands-on task serves both the curriculum and an invaluable dive into the realm of interactive media.

This project is taking place with Malcolm MBE RD, the Creative Director of Images&Co. As an innovation consultancy and design practice, Images&Co centres its focus on culture, identity, and place. They collaborate closely with city governments, universities, and various stakeholders, championing projects that advance civic and service design, promote entrepreneurship and innovation through startups, and breathe new life into parks, public spaces, and local facilities.

Malcolm Garrett, a distinguished graphic designer, brings a wealth of experience spanning over four decades. His groundbreaking work has impacted various domains, including music, the arts, media, digital experiences, immersive spaces, and public environments.

Our learners were tasked to design and develop an interactive app that will assess various food types, offering essential information about the food available at local supermarkets, grocery stores, butchers, and fruit and vegetable vendors.

Furthermore, it's designed to empower individuals to make informed choices about their diets, access and share vital information about food and its impact on the climate, and plan their diets on a daily, weekly, monthly, or even seasonal basis.

During his visit, Malcolm shared his vocational journey, highlighting his role within the company, his journey into graphic design and insights into the ever-evolving industry.

When offering feedback, our visitor discussed the user experience, offered industry insight and had individual discussions with our learners about design decisions they made.

"It was a delightful experience receiving feedback from Malcolm. I see lots of room for improvement!" Salman, year 13 Digital Media learner.
