Our Engineering Teacher Derek ran a session a health and safety masterclass for the T level engineering learners supporting Unit 12 ‘Health and Safety principles and coverage.’ The session covered Hazards in manufacturing and engineering specifically when using the table saw.
During this session, learners explored the H& S linked to machines, risks when working with machinery and how to prevent injury, safety measures that are linked to the machine including air quality, push stick, PPE, air quality - extraction fan systems.
Learners also enjoyed a demonstration on the proper technique of how to set up and use the saw to cut materials.
‘I believe in Maria Montessori practice of teaching by using practical demonstrations as the best way for learners to link the content on the T level course to the world of work. The learners were engaged and where able to link the H&S theory to the scenario,’ Famida, T level engineering teacher.
“The exercises of practical life are formative activities, a work of adaptation to the environment. Such adaptation to the environment and efficient functioning therein is the very essence of a useful education.” Maria Montessori.
