Our Psychology learners were virtually visited by Paige from Balfour Beatty to be set an exciting Employer Led Project, helping learners practise their qualitative and quantitative research skills.
Paige is a Business Management Graduate for Balfour Beatty which means her job role involves some of the research skills that are used in Psychology.
For our year 12 learners, Paige set a research project exploring Electric Vehicles in urban areas. Paige shared Balfour Beatty’s work in the EV industry as well as discussing the current infrastructure for electric vehicles and the government's plans to reduce emissions from petrol/diesel cars.
After discussing the subject that the learners will be researching, Paige set the brief for the group project:
- Demonstrate your understanding of the movement towards EVs in urbanised areas.
- Using a mixed method approach (qualitative & quantitative), Evidence the impact urbanisation has on mental health OR Evidence the impact of incorporating Electric Vehicles into local environment OR Evidence the impact green spaces has on mental health.
- Provide solutions to improving the local environment for both the community and EV movement.
- Present these findings back to the class
Through this Employer Led Project, our learners have the opportunity to put psychology research methods in the context of real-world issues. Year 12 psychology learners Tashim shared, ‘The Balfour Beatty construction group’s project brief, has given me an opportunity to explore how I could develop and maintain the greenery in an urban area despite the rise of modern infrastructures.’
We look forward to the results fromt this exciting Employer Led Project...
