Teachers Lead in Lego

Institute of Imagination

Our Lego practitioners Shafina and Alan were invited by the Institute of Imagination as VIP partners, to the Lego hub in Holborn.

The Institute of Imagination is a children’s charity with international reach. Working with parents, educators, community leaders and industry experts, they have transformed the lives of over 140,000 children through their creative learning experiences.

This event was to launch their strategy impact report which included how partners like us at LDE, have contributed to the shaping of their success by collaborating on several projects, with the Mayor of London Recode event being the big one.

Those invited included high-profile charities, funders, schools, government and others who all collectively value the work of the Institute of Imagination.

Shafina shares, ‘I lifelong friendships with those at Lego and at the Institute of Imagination and this is because of the amount of work we at LDE have done together with them.’

Dyson School of Dyson Engineering Event

As a PhD rep in her department at university, Shafina was part of the Design Engineering Open House student showcase.

This event is an opportunity for current students from all years of Imperial College London’s Dyson School of Dyson Engineering to show and talk about their work with the aim to inspire the next generation of design engineers and foster a strong community spirit within the school.

Shafina was asked to deliver a talk on her work and research at university, and as her work at LDE is linked to her research at university, she spoke about her work on using Lego.

Her Lego work involves education young children in primary schools on Design Engineering solutions to global issues. She shared how this early learning is important and why the Lego tool helps.

She also shared how she has trained teachers at LDE to use Lego in the curriculum, trained learners on the widely known Lego innovation programme and how she is hugely passionate about creativity and innovation in education. She is focused on driving change in education where her love for project based and experiential learning empowers her to constantly do new things.
