Connectr Presents talk on National Grid

Connectr, who connect individuals with leading UK companies and organisations, visited our year 12 learners to deliver a masterclass on the National Grid, a prominent STEM company with over 23,000 employees worldwide.

Ben's presentation began by clarifying the misconceptions surrounding STEM, emphasising its applicability in every industry and job role.

Ben then discussed delving National Grid’s involvement in projects like the construction of the London Power tunnels and their dedication to helping the UK achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, he also shared National Grid's ambitious plan to recruit 400,000 individuals for the burgeoning energy workforce.

The discussion then explored the diverse job opportunities within National Grid, including apprenticeships, graduate schemes, internships, and industrial placements. Ben provided insights into specific roles like IT professionals, quality control experts, and planning engineers, showcasing the organisation's broad range of career paths.

Ben provided an in-depth overview of the advanced apprenticeship, higher apprenticeship, and degree apprenticeship programs. These pathways offer invaluable experience and qualifications while working alongside industry professionals at National Grid and getting paid.

Learners then enjoyed a group task where they interacted with National Grid Digital buddies platform. Participants examined mentor bios and comprised three insightful questions about job roles, career journeys, and personal preferences.

This session highlighted the significance of STEM knowledge in all job roles and provided insights into the diverse opportunities within the company. Through Connectr's commitment to connecting people with industry leaders, the event served as a catalyst for career exploration and aspiration within National Grid and related industries.
