Telford Homes, a London-based developer, recently hosted a masterclass led by Ben, their Project Manager, focusing on Health & Safety on construction projects and took our learners on a tour of the Gallions Construction site.
This Employer Engagement supported our second-year apprentices with Health & Safety (Unit 5) of the Construction & Built Environmnet Btec.
Telford Homes is known for its commitment to quality and safety in the construction industry. They partner with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, an organisation dedicated to promoting best practices and maintaining a positive industry image.
The session began with Ben engaging our apprentices in a discussion about their career aspirations and their current roles in the industry. This conversation allowed our apprentices to share their goals, and Ben, drawing from his experience, offered guidance to help them navigate their careers.
Our apprentices also enjoyed an in-depth discussion about the Gallions project, a transformative development in the Royal Docks area. Ben shared insights into the project's plan, which aims to provide a better quality of life for future residents and create a strong sense of community within London's enterprise zone.
The day was concluded with a guided tour of the Gallions site for our apprentices. This hands-on experience allowed them to see the construction process and observe safety measures in action. The practical exposure, combined with Ben's guidance, helped our apprentices better understand construction safety practices.
As the masterclass ended, our apprentices had the opportunity to ask Ben questions and benefit from his expertise in the construction industry.
'It was great seeing the construction site so close to our college and all the work in progress. Ben, the Project Manager talked us through the story behind the Telford Homes projects with great passion. The learners had the opportunity to ask questions after the tour, related to the construction operations they saw, programming, budgeting, health and safety on site and also general questions about working on a construction site,' Pavla, Construction and Built Environment teacher.
