Our Year 9 and 10 learners have embarked on a transformative journey of career exploration and skill development, thanks to the dedicated support of professionals from our sponsors Skanska, Thames, Tideway, and Costain. This unique mentoring scheme will help our learners navigate the pivotal stages of their educational and career planning.
Grouped into fours and paired with mentors, learners have reflected on their employability skills, assessing their growth over the past four months. The mentoring sessions have not only enriched their understanding of various industries but also provided a clearer vision of their future pathways, especially as they stand on the threshold of selecting their GCSE subjects or have just chosen them.
The mentoring initiative aims to:
- Offer learners a firsthand look into industry careers, tracing mentors' journeys from students to professionals.
- Enhance employability skills crucial for the future workforce.
- Expand learners' professional networks, offering a glimpse into the world of work.
- Possibly open doors to work experience opportunities through mentor connections.
- Assist learners in balancing academic commitments with career aspirations.
As the program concludes, our learners will craft their first CVs and undergo mock interviews, utilising insights gained from their workbooks and mentoring experiences. This process not only prepares them for the immediate steps ahead but lays a solid foundation for their future careers.
Janice, our Careers and Progression Lead, praised the initiative, stating, "These mentoring sessions bridge the gap between education and the working world, offering our learners a priceless perspective on what it takes to succeed in their chosen fields."
Thanks to our industry mentors from Skanska, Thames, Tideway, and Costain for their invaluable contribution to our learners' growth. Their engagement and dedication has significantly impacted our learners, equipping them with the skills and confidence to excel in the working world.
