Onboard HMS Wellington: Future Maritime Engineering Programme

A selected number of year 12 engineering learners enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Portsmouth Port, where they stepped into the exciting world of maritime engineering.

We are proud that we attended the first ever Future Maritime Engineers residential trip and were delighted to be invited back for the second phase of this fantastic initiative. Offering such a unique opportunity to experience the maritime sector, we are confident that this programme will continue to offer young people valuable experiences of engineering in industry for many years to come.

Learners discovered the role engineering plays in the maritime sector, learned about career pathways into the industry and experienced engineering in real industry scenarios. They also had the opportunity to interact with significant figures in the sector including the keynote speaker Carl Stephen Patrick Hunter OBE, Wellington Trust Ambassador and Chairman of Coltraco Ultrasonics and Ambassador Simon Quail BEd MA.

“Thanks to the students who were great ambassadors for LDEUTC. I was struck by their responsiveness and respectful attitude towards me and all the adults we met. They engaged attentively and conducted themselves with the upmost professionalism.” Rebecca, Educational Development Officer.

“Everyone had a delightful experience, from the stunning views to engaging interviews and insightful discussions with industry professionals. The passion and knowledge shared by those in the maritime industry inspired me and my classmates to explore careers within the field,” Year 12 Engineer Corina.

We extend our gratitude to the Portal Trust for supporting this event and the Wellington Trust’s Education Office for organising.
