Learners lead discussions at Laing O’Rourke

We took some of our year 9 learners to join a workshop with senior leaders from Laing O’Rourke.

Laing O'Rourke is a multinational construction company with their headquarters in Dartford, England. It is the largest privately owned construction company in the United Kingdom. Leading figures in the company travelled from all over the world, as far away as Australia, for this exciting occasion.

The workshop provided an opportunity for our learners to engage in conversation with senior leaders from Laing O’Rourke, and to learn more about their leadership and organisational culture, and what they are looking for from young employees coming into their organisation. Our learners also shared their insight, by offering opinions on how the company could reach more diverse and younger audiences. Our learners spoke well and were valuable members of the workshop.

Laing O’Rourke were also impressed and expressed their desire to do more work with LDE UTC learners. Following the workshop, we have exciting plans on collaborations, potential apprenticeship and other opportunities.

Thanks to Laing O’Rourke for inviting us down to share our perspective and help promote diversity in the construction industry.

‘Laing O’Rourke have expressed their focus in attracting and recruiting young talent from diverse communities as a key strategic priority, as they believe that diversifying their talent pool will also enrich and strengthen their corporate capability. I was proud of our learners for getting involved in the workshop and adding value to the discussions. I am confident that this is the start a great relationship with an amazing company!’ Warren, Learning Support Unit Coach.
