Our Lego year 12 ambassadors took on the exciting challenge of leading their first independent LEGO primary session, delving into the theme of 'Sustainability in Logistics' while introducing Ellen Wilkinson primary school students to the captivating world of Robotics. This session provided a unique opportunity for our learners to engage in meaningful discussions about pressing questions regarding the future, all in a way that was accessible and engaging for young minds. The primary school students not only explored important concepts related to sustainability in logistics but also gained a foundational understanding of robotics through exciting exploration.
To kick off the session, the students engaged in a collaborative discussion with their peers, brainstorming ways to make transportation cleaner and more environmentally friendly. Keywords such as logistics, sustainability, and transport were explored, sparking insightful conversations. One solution that captured their imagination was Amazon's 'Prime Air,' which presented an intriguing possibility for sustainable logistics.
The rest of the session was dedicated to hands-on exploration through the medium of LEGO. The primary school students eagerly embarked on the main task, which involved designing and building their very own sustainable transportation vehicles using LEGO bricks. But the excitement didn't stop there – they also discovered how to integrate robotics to power and direct their creations, adding an extra layer of innovation to their projects.
Our talented Lego ambassadors each had the opportunity to lead a different segment of the workshop. Their exemplary leadership skills shone through as they encouraged the primary school students to explore, engage in meaningful discussions, and embrace critical thinking. It was truly inspiring to witness the ambassadors fostering an environment of curiosity and discovery.
Overall, the LEGO primary session proved to be an exceptional platform for our learners to take on the roles of leaders, mentors, and facilitators. By delivering an engaging session on sustainability in logistics and introducing the foundations of robotics, our ambassadors ignited a passion for these subjects among the primary school students.
"As a Computer Science learner, it was a pleasure teaching the primary school students how to operate the Lego robotic kits, I enjoyed watching their creativity flow as they programmed their Lego models and worked together with their classmates." Mathusan, year 12 learner.
