Learners Represent LDE UTC at Newham Delegates Assembly

A community-led event that brought together mayoral candidates from the Labour, Green and Independent parties.

The assembly created an open and engaging space for local residents to question candidates directly on issues affecting the borough, including youth safety, housing and the Living Wage. Candidates spoke openly about their priorities and, importantly, all committed to working alongside the community should they be elected.

The event was a strong example of community organising in action, demonstrating how collective voices can be brought together to hold decision-makers to account and ensure local concerns are heard and taken seriously.

Throughout the assembly, LDE UTC learners represented the school with professionalism and maturity. They were attentive and engaged during discussions and interacted confidently and respectfully when given the opportunity to meet and speak with the mayoral candidates. Their thoughtful approach reflected both their personal character and the wider values of the school community.

Events such as the Newham Delegates Assembly provide you by people with meaningful opportunities to engage with democratic processes, develop civic awareness and understand how decision-making at a local level can shape their communities.

This opportunity was supported by the school’s Chaplaincy team, whose ongoing work with learners helps create space for reflection, dialogue and meaningful engagement with issues that affect their communities.
