London Design & Engineering UTC Celebrates GCSE Success

London Design & Engineering UTC is celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results, with learners achieving a powerful mix of academic success and technical excellence.

More than half of all learners achieved at least one top grade (7–9 or Distinction/Distinction*). Among them, three learners achieved grade 9 in every single subject, an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects the talent and determination of the year group.

Principal and CEO Geoffrey Fowler said: “These results are a testament to the resilience, creativity and determination of our learners. We are proud not only of those who achieved the very highest grades, but also of those who made outstanding progress and secured the qualifications they need for their futures. Our staff and employer partners have worked tirelessly to ensure that every learner sees the purpose of their studies and has the opportunity to succeed. Together, we are shaping futures as well as results.”

Strong Performance in Technical and Specialist Subjects As a specialist technical college, LDE UTC is proud of its exceptional results in engineering and science.

Nearly half of all learners achieved Distinctions in their technical qualifications and 90% achieved Merit or better. These outcomes reflect the school’s mission to prepare young people for the world of work, building both academic knowledge and the technical skills that employers and universities are looking for.

Sciences also stood out, with almost 70% of Chemistry and Physics entries awarded top grades 7–9. In Biology, more than 55% of entries achieved these top marks.

Anne Heal, Chair of Directors, said: “These results reflect the ambition and commitment of our learners, staff, and partners. At LDE UTC we are not just celebrating exam grades, but the opportunities now open to young people in technical, creative, and professional fields.”

English and Mathematics Success

Learners also performed strongly in English and Maths:

  • 68% achieved grades 4–9 in both subjects
  • 53% secured grades 5–9 in both subjects
  • 20% achieved the highest grades 7–9 in both subjects

English was a particular highlight, with 78% achieving grade 4 or above and 60% at grade 5 or above. In Mathematics, 75% achieved grade 4 or above, and 62% secured grade 5 or higher.

Celebrating Learner Stories Behind the numbers are inspiring personal achievements.

Sean, Mohammed and Rayan each secured an extraordinary eight grade 9s, alongside Distinction* grades in their technical studies. Learners including Nina and Mustafa celebrated a strong mix of 9s, 8s and Distinctions, reflecting the determination and ambition within the year group.

Next Steps and Future Opportunities

The majority of learners will now progress into LDE UTC’s thriving sixth form, where they will study A Levels, T Levels and advanced technical qualifications in engineering, design and digital technologies. Others are moving on to apprenticeships, specialist colleges and employer-led pathways.

Importantly, disadvantaged learners achieved results in line with their peers, while learners with SEND also celebrated important milestones. With the right support in place, every learner has been able to take the next step towards their future.

Head of School Kenan Drugzani said: “I am delighted to see our learners achieve such strong outcomes across both technical and academic subjects. These results open doors to apprenticeships, sixth form study, and future careers, and highlight the strength of our community of learners, staff, and partners.”

A Community Effort

This year’s success reflects LDE UTC’s commitment to bringing together strong academic learning with technical expertise and real-world employer projects. With new facilities opening this autumn and growing partnerships with industry and universities, learners can look forward to even greater opportunities in the years ahead.
