Our learners recently had the exciting opportunity to take part in Flight Check: Medical Roles in Aviation, a virtual careers session that opened their eyes to a fascinating and often overlooked side of the aviation industry.

Hosted by Educating Employers and delivered by Ben Southgate, the session provided a behind-the-scenes look at the many medical careers that play a crucial role in aviation safety. From aeromedical specialists and flight doctors to air ambulance staff, occupational-health teams, and cabin crew trained in emergency response, learners explored how each of these professionals contributes to keeping passengers and crew safe at every stage of a journey.
The session highlighted roles that many of our learners had never considered before:
Aviation medicine specialists who monitor the health and fitness of flight crews.
Flight paramedics and nurses who deliver life-saving care mid-air.
Occupational health professionals ensuring safety standards across airports and airlines.

It was an inspiring and eye-opening experience that sparked new interest and ambition among our Aviation learners. Many left the session with a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the industry and the teamwork required to keep it operating safely.
As a teacher, I was proud to see their curiosity grow in real time. Opportunities like this highlight the range of expertise that keeps the aviation industry running safely and show our learners that every role, whether in the air or on the ground, plays a vital part.
