This year, LDE UTC was proud to collaborate with Zaha Hadid Architects and Found Futures on the 1+1 Programme. This is an inspiring initiative designed to give young, aspiring architects and designers first-hand experience of the creative industries.

The 1+1 Programme is an immersive journey for learners aged 16–18, blending in-school workshops, studio visits, and real-world experience in professional design environments. It aims to develop technical and creative confidence while giving students a tangible sense of what a career in architecture and design can look like. 

At LDE UTC, the programme began with a Model Making Workshop, where learners explored design thinking, problem-solving, and professional techniques used in real architecture practices. Selected students were then invited to take part in studio visits and work experience placements at Zaha Hadid Architects - one of the world’s leading architectural firms - gaining direct insight into how design, creativity, and collaboration shape the built environment. 

“The team here got stuck into all aspects of the programme and really enjoyed working with the students at London Design and Engineering UTC and we learnt a lot too!” said Corinne Wint, Senior Programme Coordinator at Found Futures. “The future is bright.” Through partnerships like this, learners not only build technical knowledge but also develop the confidence, communication, and creative awareness that define professional designers.   The 1+1 Programme demonstrates how education and industry can come together to inspire future talent, connecting the classroom with world-class creative practice.
