LDE UTC and the Landscape Institute Launch New Level 3 Landscape Technician Apprenticeship

The Landscape Institute and Engineering Skills College, part of London Design & Engineering UTC, have announced a new partnership to deliver the Level 3 Landscape Technician Apprenticeship, a 24-month programme designed to train and inspire the next generation of landscape professionals.
Funded at £9,000 per apprentice, the programme blends remote learning, in-person practical sessions and hands-on employer experience, giving apprentices the opportunity to earn while they learn. The curriculum covers design, planning, environmental management and key industry-standard tools including CAD and GIS, alongside creative and technical problem-solving skills that are essential for modern landscape practice.

Apprentices will also gain professional membership of the Landscape Institute, progressing from Student Member to Technician Member during the course. This provides access to sector events, resources and networks, ensuring learners are connected to the wider profession from the very start of their careers.
Engineering Skills College will deliver expert teaching using its modern facilities, while the Landscape Institute will ensure the programme meets professional standards and connects apprentices directly with employers across the sector.
The first cohort will begin in January 2026, with an in-person launch event taking place at Engineering Skills College on Friday 17 October 2025.
“This apprenticeship represents a vital pathway into a fast-growing profession,” said [LI spokesperson]. “It helps close the national skills gap and ensures the sector continues to grow with skilled, work-ready entrants.”
This partnership reflects our shared commitment to expanding technical education routes, supporting sustainable placemaking and creating new opportunities for young people across the landscape sector.
